Spermidine, a naturally occurring polyamine, has emerged as a promising compound to counteract this decline by promoting autophagy, a cellular process crucial for T cell health. This mechanism is particularly important for long-lived cells such as memory T cells, which \u201cremember\u201d past infections and enable a rapid and effective response upon re-exposure. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-13136c8c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"13136c8c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Studies have shown that autophagy is crucial for the formation and maintenance of memory CD8\u207a T cells. Research in mice with a defect in the autophagy gene Atg7 in T cells demonstrated that while acute responses to infection were normal, memory T cell formation was severely impaired. T cells from treated donors displayed increased production of IFN-\u03b3 and perforin, indicating a stronger immune response (Alsaleh et al., 2020).
